Marty Dryden Brown is an Australian filmmaker, cinematographer, and documentarian based in Far North Queensland. With a background in music, event production and a lifelong passion for photography and visual storytelling, Marty co-founded Blackbox Studios, an award-winning film collective known for its evocative music videos, short films, and community-led projects. His documentary work is often grounded in regional Australia, with a focus on amplifying First Nations voices, preserving cultural identity, and exploring the intersection between people and place., Marty has carved a niche for visually rich, emotionally grounded storytelling rooted in community, identity, and Country.
His creative practice is driven by a deep commitment to telling real stories that matter. Marty’s recent work includes Kuku Balkal Kaykayanda – Giving Voice to Children, a heartfelt documentary amplifying the voices of Indigenous youth, and The Wujal Wujal Dance Revival, which captures the powerful intergenerational transfer of cultural knowledge as Elders teach traditional dances to the next generation.
Marty is currently co-directing Faces of Australia, a new documentary series that celebrates remarkable individuals across regional and remote Australia—people whose lives, values, and creativity reflect the diverse spirit of the country. He is also co-creator of From Land To Sea: The People's Story, an immersive photographic and projection-based exhibition showcasing Elders and cultural custodians in Far North Queensland through powerful black-and-white portraiture and site-specific storytelling.
